to a point

Note to the universe: While having your words impact a broad audience is a joy to any author, having a rifle shot taken as a shotgun blast by so many people, as is the case with my blog post "words to a stricken, worthy heart" is annoying. Snort.

No one who wrote to me or commented about the piece is the person I was talking about. Someone needs to do a study on transference in blogging commentators.

Having called me (sans permission or request) or having once met me at a signing does not mean I sit around composing poems or blog entries about you and your world. I have planty of things to keep my pen, my mind and my heart busy on my side of the fence.

As an author it is nice to have universal impact, to hear people say "what you wrote speaks to me"...that is good. To a point.

With all due respect, Mr. DeVault,
I hasten you to get a tighter grip on your favorite fine point pilot pen. Inspiration is a four way street. While you are a favorite scenic view point, you are not likely to be the ONLY point of inspiration along the journey. Brilliance does not equal Be All and End All.

In regard to finger pointing, perhaps some visualization is in order.

I am holding up my WRITE hand. Palm facing myself. Three fingers are extended. The centralmost finger is A finger, POINTing skyward. Read between the lines. (This was meant in the vein of friendly banter by the way).

Just a moment please, I need to anwser the phone.

"Yes?"

"Who may I say is calling?
Certainly, one moment please,"

Mr. DeVault this call is ACTUALLY for you.

It is A Miss Pot,
Apparently she is calling the Kettle Back.

Are you too busy to take this call?
Umn, hmm. That's what I thought.

Don't worry about obsessive commenting from this pen, I'll be too busy getting my panties out of a twist for a while.

If you get lonely, check the looking glass, it seems to be in love with you.

-An annoyed reader who respects you, regardless of the crabby pants you pulled on today. You might want to change your clothes after skating on all that thin ice today. You could catch a cold shoulder that way, you know.

Oh yeah, saying I LOVE this, and I LOVE that is often recognized for what it is, an expression of enthusiasm in writing. In my book, the phrase only counts live and in person, and only then when it is a well proven sentiment.

Have a really nice day.

To quote the immortal (and fictional) Roy Batty "That's the spirit!".

Why does everyone assume the great sin of authors is ego? (All the authors, all the artists, I know laugh sadly at this concept...)

I had a friend who was badly injured in a car accident. Their significant other visited them in the hospital and when the badly hurt friend moaned softly and said they did not feel good, their "better half" responded with "Why does this have to be about you? Imagine how I am feeling, seeing you hurt!"

And, actually, my looking glass despises me, with good reason.

On the mirror, try vinegar and newsprint, if it isn't reflecting what you want to see, clean it off, or get a new mirror. It should be reflecting a pretty decent poet and man.

BTW-Artists are often accused of being egocentric because they often are. Attention to detail and nuance is what makes them capable of seeing things that most people overlook. "normal" people have a problem with that. The miscommunication is based on envy and ignorance. It is also why so many brilliant beings are also tortured souls. They are misunderstood.

-on an unrelated sidenote, switching to a thong tends to prevent VPL and uncomfortable twisting.
