this came to me, just now, as I lingered over a photo of someone...precious to me.

an eclipsing thought
not
what
I had expected
when the unprotected
seed of yesterday ejected
taking root in the barren soil
the spoil
that toils
to make me forget
that which I would set
in stone and bone and jet
as monument to the fewer
newer
truer
gods of love who leave
to kiss the stones and grieve
for a moment I've yet to receive
