new composition: Rascal's Wager
time heals
no, it seals
memory in a shell of self-validation
until we no longer recall the truth
until we no longer care what is reality
and what is merely our self-esteem's currency.
no doubt
we tear out
only the images we want to carry with us
in the Velcro billfold of memory
so that we never have to accept as dealt
the cards that fell to the stained and faded felt.

This just came to me, I actually composed (even slightly changing the phrasing in the final two lines) as I sat here.
Troubling, but earnest. Inspired by real elements in my life and the rediscovered works of a musician.
