"A Christmas Story" director, son die

Word has just reached me that Robert Clark, the director of several feature films including "Rhinestone", "Porky's" and the seasonal classic "A Christmas Story", along with his son, were killed in a collision with a drunk driver in Pacific Palisades.

For further information, check out the news story at Yahoo: Robert Clark, son, Killed by Drunk Driver

I always loved that film and am saddened by the loss of this man who brightened so many lives for so many years and for years to come.

This year, a young man I know, used this movie as a final deal clenching plea for a Red Ryder.

What a waste of a life. I'm saddened by the news.

Having been a drug and alcohol lecturer in schools in California, including handling the duties as Friday Night Live Coordinator for Monterey County (FNL is a program trying to give kids something to do on Friday night besides getting drunk and wrecking their cars), I am always angered by such incidents. We sit and watch hour upon hour of commercials every year from beer and wine companies that try and sell an image of alcohol that is inconsistent with the statistics of pain, poverty, violence and death this drug causes.
