Skyscraper Ambition

Some of the symbolism will be lost on all but one or two people, and there are levels to this thing that you might be surprised by, think "Godfather Part II" and Jason and the Argonauts, for two clues. I don't think it is being an obscurantist to ask your readers to be clever and well-learned...have we become a nation of dolts? (Rhetorical question, we already know the answer.)

Skyscraper Ambition

I won't be denied like five angels died
for the legacy of what we see
and still can't look beyond.
blonde hairs unbonded to the steel
of the brothers, waiting patiently their turn
as I burn to generate a sweet heat
that swelters and shelters doubt
in a shell well-turned of churned emotion
and an epic epigram that slams
me down to draw new life from the earth.

birthing fantastic fantasies of skyscraper ambition
and the sedition of seduction and construction
of something new in black and red.
warm oranges on a fresh bed.
holding back. holding back.
denying the rough rapture
that I may yet capture a heat more than heated,
an heir apparent unseated
so that a new princess, a new goddess,
may rise to lure with what lies beyond the pillars.

heavy thoughts for a Saturday morning

A weekend looms before me (actually, I am already somewhat into it) and depending on the weather, I plan to get out and enjoy the end-of-the-world warm weather. It's nice that it is this warm in January, bad because it means my children and grandchildren will be paying, with interest, the penalties, because this weather is part of the global warming climactic change that greedy, ignorant and arrogant individuals have brought about and still deny, because it is easier for the coward to whistle past the graveyard than to accept their own mortality.

Like making a few bucks will keep them from their eventual fate. Folks, we all die. I accepted that when I was but 8 years old and I haven't bothered to look back. Sooner or later, most of the villains repent...not because they really have undergone a change of heart, but because they are afraid of dying a villain, or their accountants tell them that it will ease their tax burden. Virtue for selfish motive is not virtue, just as repentence in the name of fear is not a change of heart, just a change of underwear.

Speaking of underwear, I had a nice talk with Jaz yesterday. It's good to hear her voice. It heals some scars I have collected over the last few years. Is she toying with me? I can't prove her heart, but I can be patient and wait and see what manifests then try to see what it means. Am I walking of another cliff? Well, if I am this time it will at least be my heart and not another section of my anatomy leading me to a few more bumps and bruises.

my tribe and bloodline

I never knew an instinctive writer who benefitted from writing less.

People who have the wiring to write, to express themselves verbally on the page, do this as a means not only to communicate with others but also to release elements within themselves. When they don't do it enough, they become overwhelmed by their emotions, their thoughts. Think of it like a sexual being choosing not to express themselves sexually for weeks, months, even years.

Not a healthy thing.

I know too many people who have the inclination and the talent who don't write as often as they should. It is important for good mental health for these people. It is a coping mechanism that not only can help you control your inner demons, but also help others to understand their own.

The legendary dancer George Balanchine once said "I don't want people who want to dance; I want people who have to dance."

I am that way about my proteges. I respect people who only dabble in creative efforts, but those who are consumed with it, who become an extension of their art, an acolyte in the temples of creativity...those are the people of my tribe and bloodline. The hunter-gatherers of the soul and of the human condition.

welcome to the never

because someone whose opinion matters to me called me a genius this evening, an encore is in order.

welcome to the never

pattern your kisses after my smile
and I will wait a while
to tell you what could be better
if ever
welcome to the never

warm desert winds in your hair
snare the moment
and toss it to the waiting crowd
however
welcome to the never

cut me but don't shut me
out at the plate
I'm not invoking fate in this
endeavor
welcome to the never

the ever ever after the source
of tears and laughter
better shared better dared
bet clever
welcome to the never
